Junior Science Labs
Who said science is boring? "Get your science on" with our new wet lab series. You'll learn how to dissect a squid, make a wave tube, or observe plankton with a microscope. Lab classes are filled with exiting demonstrations and hands-on experiments and may include a cool "make your own" take home project like a Squid Gyotaku Print or a your own creative plankton luggage tag.
Groups of 15 participants or more may request a group program with the Education Department. Click here for reservation instructions.
Fish Dissection with Professor Tako
Fish Dissection - with Professor Tako
Do you know what a swim bladder is for? How about a lateral line? Ever heard of a peduncle? What adaptations do fish have to survive? All these and more questions will be answered as student dissect their own fish. Fish dissection is great to enhance curriculum on Chordata and the structure and functions of their body parts.
Cost: $7.95 per student.
Recommended ages: 6 years and up. Online reservations are required.

Dissection is an important part of science discovery that can help us better understand how life works. Students will dissect their own squid, learn about this animal, and make their own squid print on paper. Touching tide pool creatures is included.

Rostrum, Telson, Pleopod, Maxilliped; if these words sound impressive to you, it's time to dissect a shrimp. This widely known crustacean is an important link on the world ocean's food chain but how much do you know about this amazing animals? Dissect your own Jumbo Shrimp and find out yourself.

Microbe Monsters - the microscopic world of plankton
Learn about the teeny, tiny plants and animals called plankton and study live plankton under a microscope! Discover just how important these microscopic organisms are to our ocean's health and food web. Design your own Microbe Monster book mark or luggage tag to take home with you! Cost: $7.95 per student.

Opae Ula - Hawaiian Super Shrimp
Opae Ula - Hawaiian Super Shrimp
Learn about Hawai'i's endemic and endangered anchialine pond shrimp and their ecosystem and make your own Opae Ula aquarium to take home. Lesson includes learning about crustacean characteristics and anatomy. Teacher special: bring your own aquarium and design it into an Opae Ula home for your classroom (material fee applies).
Cost: $8.50 material fee (per aquarium with field trip admission).

T-shirt and fabric printing
Create your own personalized t-shirt in this unique aquatic themed t-shirt designing workshop. Sharks, turtles, dolphins, and even an eel are among the choices exclusively available for this workshop. Our special printing technique makes this workshop fun and easy to do for the whole family. New: bring in your own fabric to print on like a pillow case, tank top, or canvas bag.
Cost: $150 private workshop fee.

Design your own Aquaponics kit with plant and real fish!
Mini Aquaponics
You can grow plants using just water, sunlight, fish poop, and some love. It's a true story. In this fun workshop we'll teach you the basics of aquaponics. The best part? You'll get to design your own aquaponics kit with real fish and plant to take home.
Cost: $250 private workshop fee.
Includes 10 aquaponics kits. Additional kits may be purchased starting at $20 per kit. Recommended ages: 6 years and up. Online reservations are required.
